Costantino Baratta

Costantino Baratta
Costantino Baratta (1957) is a construction worker who became a hero. He lives with his wife in Lampedusa, where he has been living since 1987. On the morning of the 3rd of October 2013, he went out with his boat and he saw a group of shipwrecked Eritreans in the middle of the sea. With his friend Onder, he succeeded in saving twelve people: 11 boys and a girl. The newspaper L’Espresso wanted to dedicate him a cover as "Man of the year". Costantino is still in contact with many of the boys: with his wife, they helped them to survive that tragedy. The Lampedusa's hero undoubtedly admits that it is natural and proper to help people, especially migrants, who are looking for a better future, running away from wars and dictatorships.
