Leila El Houssi
Leila El Houssi is currently Professor of History of Islamic Countries at the University of Padua. After a degree in Political Science and a master in Intercultural Studies, she obtained a PhD in History, Institutions and International Relations of the extra-European Countries, with a thesis on the role of the Italian antifascism in Tunisia between the two world wars. She was lecturer at the European Master in Policy and Society in Contemporary Europe and at the Master in Mediterranean Studies of the University of Florence. She is an expert on history, cultures and gender issues of the Mediterranean area, particularly on the relations between Italy, Tunisia and other North African countries. Among her publications: "Costruire la libertà. Tunisia: Dalla modernità alla tradizione?" (2012) and “L’urlo contro il regime. Gli antifascisti italiani in Tunisia tra le due guerre” (2014). In 2016 she received the Francesco Saverio Nitti Award for the Mediterranean.
