Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio

Orchestra Piazza Vittorio
The “Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio” is a multi-ethnic orchestra created in 2002 within the Association Apollo 11, a project supported by artists, intellectuals and cultural operators to enhance the Esquilino district of Rome, largely populated by immigrants. The Orchestra represents a unique reality: musicians from ten different countries and speaking nine different languages, which transform their diverse roots and cultures in a unique sound. The Orchestra promotes the research and integration of different musical repertories often unknown to the public, being also an opportunity of recovery and redemption for foreign artists living in Rome, often in conditions of social and cultural exclusion. From its birth until today, the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio has realized various performances worldwide and recorded three albums. The documentary L'Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio (2006) tells the story of this very unusual musical ensemble. The movie has been successfully screened at many international festivals, including the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland and the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. In Italy it has won several awards such as the Nastro d'Argento and the Globo D’Oro as best documentary, both in 2007. Ziad Trabelsi (Tunisia, oud, voice), "Kaw" Dialy Mady Sissoko (Senegal, voice, kora) and Houcine Ataa (Tunisia, voice) will be our guests.
