Padre Mussie Zerai

Padre zerai
Father Mussie Zerau (Asmara, Eritrea, 1975) is a Roman Catholic priest and humanitarian worker for refugees. He has been involved for 10 years in the rescue of migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea. Zerai arrived in Rome at the age of 14 and during his first years in Italy he worked as translator and assistant for immigrants, helping them to manoeuvre through the bureaucratic system. In 2006 he co-founded the Habeshia agency that works for refugees and asylum seekers. He was ordained priest in 2010 and in 2015 the Peace Research Institute Oslo nominated Zerai for the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize. He has lived in Switzerland since 2012.
